Holy Cross School, Tadong, celebrated the 71st Independence Day with great zeal and enthusiasm in the School ground today with Mrs. Alphonsa Davis, one of the Seniormost Teacher, as the Chief Guest for the day. The programme began with welcoming of the Chief Guest followed by hoisting of the Tricolour. Mrs. Gita Kafley gave the introduction speen about the importance of Independence Day. School Captain Prabhakar Sharma also spoke about the importance of Independence Day in Nepali.
There was an Inter-house March Past competition followed by a Inter – house cultural dance Competition.
Students from the Pre-primary section presented a colourful dance and the primary section students presented a very melodious patriotic song followed by a Punjabi folk dance by the students of the Primary Section.
There was an Interhouse Folk Dance Competition for the Senior Section Students where the participants of all the houses gave their best presentation. The highlight of the day was Karate Presentation by the Students. They displayed the different techniques of Self Defense that can be used in our day to day life. There was also some power display of breaking the tiles which was appreciated by all the audience present.
The highlight of the day was the Finals of the Independence Day Inter House Football Tournament played between Yellow House and the Blue House. Yellow House clinched the Title by beating Blue house 4-1. Lajan Pradhan (Yellow House) was adjudged Man of the Match and Sagar Pradhan (Yellow House) was adjudged Man of the Tournament.
At the end the Chief Guest distributed the certificates, medals and trophies to all the winners of the different events of the day. Blue House was the winner of the both the Inter-house March Past and the Cultural Dance Competition.
In the March Past, Red House was the Runners-up followed by Yellow and Green House in the third and fourth position respectively.
In the Dance competition, Red House was the Runners-up followed by Yellow House and Green House in the third and fourth position respectively.
Kessang Choden Lepcha of Class XI was also awarded the Best Marcher by the judges.
At the end, Shristi Pradhan, proposed the vote of thanks.
The Judges were: Mr. Verghese, Mr. Mukesh, Mr. Prabin and Mr. Zamyang for the March Past and Mr. Nikhil Khati, Mrs. Arpana, Miss Claudina and Mrs. Rosy Chettri for the Dance Competition.
The official for the Football Match were Mr. Samuel Adhikari, Mr. Zamyang Dorjeee & Jaideep Chettri. Mr. Mukesh and Mr. Shyam were the table officials.
The programme which was attended by various guests, parents, ex-teachers, ex-students, well-wishers concluded with the distribution of sweets to the students.
