The United Nations has proclaimed every 25th of the month as “Orange Day” – a day to take action to raise awareness and prevent violence against women and girls. 25th November being the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is generally celebrated as “Orange Day”.
Holy Cross School, Tadong celebrated “Orange Day” on 24th November 2018 (25th being Sunday) to create awareness and prevent violence against women and girls. This is the second time that school celebrated the day.
The students with Orange ribbons, bands, balloons and teachers dressed in Orange dress took the silent rally from the school compound to Sikkim Manipal University Campus, Tadong and back to school. Students were seen carrying placards with slogans for Women Empowerment, Crime against Women, etc. More than 800 students took part in the rally. When the rally reaches the school compound, a host of programmes were conducted by the students and teachers. Students and teachers shared their thoughts for the women in the form of speeches, poems and songs. The students of the primary section who did not take part in the rally took part in a “Make a Card” competition where they prepare a greeting card for any women in their life.
The Principal in her address congratulated and thanked all the teachers and students, police personnel, SMU Management and all those who made the rally and programme successful.
